After a few years of developing Disaster Recovery plans for their Data Centers, companies started to write plans for the recovery of their business units. This process was called Business Resumption.
Since the technology resided in and was controlled by the Data Center, these plans were little more than calling trees to notify employees and list of inventories needed for each department. They seldom addressed alternate processing methods and were seldom exercised to see if they would work.
Often the responsibility for Business Resumption fell under the jurisdiction of groups other than the Data Center.
